Senior Independent Living Resident Communication
Keeping residents informed can be hard when they live in apartments away from the main community building.
SeniorScreens gives independent living communities a simple way to share activities, menus, announcements, appointments, and schedule changes with residents on their mobile devices.
Most importantly, residents can check what is happening before they leave their apartment. Meanwhile, staff can update information in one place and keep the community informed.

Help Stop the Turnaround Trek
Years ago, a resident living in an independent living apartment in Indiana told me about a problem I never forgot.
He would get ready and make the trip from his apartment to the main building for an activity. However, when he got there, he would sometimes find out the activity had been canceled, moved, or changed.
So, he had to turn around and make the trip back to his apartment.
I call that the Turnaround Trek.
For some residents, that trip is more than a small inconvenience. For example, the walk may be long. It may also take extra time, or it may simply be tiring.
More importantly, the real problem is communication. When residents live throughout an independent living community, staff need a quick way to share a change before someone leaves home.
That simple problem stayed with me. As a result, it became an important part of why we built SeniorScreens.
Give residents a way to know before they go.

Finally, residents can check the latest information from their apartment before they make the trip.
Communication Matters When Residents Live Across a Community
Independent living is different from having every resident under one roof.
In many communities, apartments are spread across a large property. Meanwhile, the dining room, activity rooms, offices, and other shared spaces may be in a separate main building.
Because of that distance, good resident communication matters.
SeniorScreens brings daily community information to residents. Therefore, they do not have to walk to the main building just to find out what is happening.
More Than 40 Years Around Senior Living
SeniorScreens did not start with a business idea from outside the senior living world. My family was in the senior living business for more than 40 years. I grew up around it. Because of that, I saw how important good communication is for both residents and staff.
Years later, I began using technology to solve some of those everyday communication problems. One of those projects was Recastio. Recastio uses digital displays to share menus, activities, announcements, and other information on TVs. It has also been used in healthcare and senior care settings, where clear daily information matters.
That experience helped shape the next step. Recastio showed me how useful digital communication could be inside a community. However, independent living residents may be in apartments away from those shared TV screens. So, SeniorScreens takes that same basic idea and brings the information directly to the resident on a mobile device.
In other words, SeniorScreens brings together two things I know well: senior living and technology. The goal is still simple. Keep residents informed and make communication easier for staff.
